RCMP were on scene as Stettler school on lockdown...

Approximately 11:45 am on December 20th, 2019 posts started circulating on social media that the Wm E Hay Stettler Secondary Campus, Stettler Elementary and Christ King Catholic Schools were in lockdown. It was not long before this was confirmed to be true.

Many RCMP vehicles could be seen on location and no calls to or from the school were allowed, nor was anyone allowed to enter or leave the school at the time.

This situation was successfully resolved approximately 30 minutes later.

A prerecorded message from the school was sent out detailing the incident at approximately 12:45 pm, confirming there had been a "potential threat" initiating a lockdown.

RCMP were on hand during the entire time with the threat being successfully deescalated without issue and or injury to anyone involved.

UPDATE:

According to ECA Review, the lockdown was in response to a report from a concerned parent who had overheard two students talking about shooting up the school and the RCMP's search for them thereafter.

The two males being sought attended the Stettler RCMP detachment of their own volition and the investigation into this complaint is now ongoing.

While this it is not known at this time if this was a credible threat or not, RCMP and school administration always err on the side of caution and treat every threat as though extremely serious, which was the reason behind the decision to put the schools into lockdown.

No further information is expected at this time.
